Smith began releasing music online in 2016, with tracks including "Blue Lights" and "Where Did I Go?" On 15 April 2018, she played the unreleased songs "The One" and "On Your Own" during her set at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, then on 20 April 2018, she revealed the title Lost & Found via her social media channels.
Smith's first track "Blue Lights," which samples Dizzee Rascal's song "Sirens," was published on SoundCloud in January 2016 and received 400,000 listens in less than a month. Smith released "Teenage Fantasy" on June 5, 2017.
